Statesville Honored in Time Magazine

Russell Rauch and other members of Statesville Plumbing were recently honored in Time Magazine for building a home 3 years ago for Iraq war veteran Dale Beatty. Thanks to the support of local vendors, Dale’s home was free of charge. For their hard work and dedication, the Statesville team received the Home Depot Building Community Award in 2007. Dale, along with war buddy John Gallina, have since developed Purple Heart Homes, a nonprofit that builds houses and adds handicapped-accessible features to existing homes of veterans. The friends started Purple Heart Homes after members of the Statesville-based Iredell County Home Builders Association (on which Rauch serves as a board member) asked Beatty if they could volunteer to build him a handicapped-accessible home on his family’s land. Many thanks to the Statesville team for getting involved … Read entire article »

All About High Efficiency Toilets (HETs)

Toilets are by far the main source of water use in the home, accounting for nearly 30 percent of an average home’s indoor water consumption. Older, inefficient toilets also happen to be a major source of wasted water in many homes. Replacing these toilets with WaterSense labeled toilets could save nearly 2 billion gallons per day across the country—that’s nearly 11 gallons per toilet in your home every day! By retrofitting your entire bathroom with WaterSense labeled fixtures from HD Supply Plumbing, you can save even more. What Are High-Efficiency Toilets? Under U.S. Federal law, new toilets must not use more than 1.6 gallons per flush (gpf). High-efficiency toilets (HETs) go beyond the standard and use 1.28 gpf, a 20% savings (6 liters v. 4.8 liters).  The WaterSense label can be applied … Read entire article »
